Swimming Retriever

This eight ton granite golden retriever “swims” in an imaginary pond of grass. Commissioned by the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in honor of benefactor, Randall B. Terry, Jr. The head and neck of the dog is seen above the surface carrying a 7′ wide bronze stick, which acts as a bench. The collar holds a bronze tag, which contains Mr. Terry’s portrait and name. My site-specific proposal was chosen as the winning design in a national competition held in early 2011. The sculpture is a metaphor for the “human/animal bond.”
